I hate sitting in at work for our Friday’s presentations. Even though the work is fascinating to look at; listening to the explanation and theory is a whole other story. It’s true that there is such a thing as “archi-speak”, “talkitecture”, or whatever you like to call it. I sit there somewhat confused and blending in like I understood everything, nodding my head every few minutes (I’m glad I’m not the only one because I found out the secretary is on the same boat as I am. She’s hilarious. lol) But anyways, it took me a while to use words like ‘façade’ instead of saying “this side of the building” or ‘threshold’ instead of “doorway”, et cetera, et cetera…
I hate that I can’t make small talk with a designer because of knowledge of famous architects, buildings, designs, artwork, etc. is so low.
“What do you think of the design of sosandso building on 123 streets?”
or
“What do you think of the architect, MaryJane who founded SoHigh Architects design of the infamous CloudNueve Building in NeverNeverLand?” O_o lol
So in order to increase my knowledge of all these things, I’m going to start copying the Oxford dictionary of architecture and landscape architecture beginning from A to Z, doing as much words as I can a day, every day till I complete the whole book.

And what’s a better way to do it then to make a tumblr page for it and adding a picture and/or example for each word. (Copying and pictures helps me remember and learn better.)
Also, this dictionary also lists famous architects (dead and alive) so I’ll make a different page strictly for that. =]
So, lo and behold!
SpeakingArchitecture.tumblr.com
(Thanks to my friend, Lester for coming up with the name when my brain was fried. lol)
Also,
FamousArchitects.tumblr.com
(Anyone who can come up with a better name is welcome to do so. I would love suggestions)
Anyways, do feel free to follow both the pages or one considering if you want to learn about different architects and/or architectural terms. ;]
